Bats found dead, injured under Tucson bridge

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Dozens of bats have been found beaten and left for dead under a highway bridge on Tucson’s south side.

A jogger found the bats along a wash under a Benson Highway bridge Monday night.

They were lying on the ground chirping in pain from broken bones and internal injuries.

Of the 33 bats, 20 were already dead and 12 were euthanized.

The Tucson Wildlife Center is caring for the sole surviving bat.
