LYONS, Kansas (AP) — A 32-year-old central Kansas man is dead after being hit by another vehicle while standing outside of his SUV after hitting a deer.

The Hutchinson News reports Boe Keesling’s 2010 Acura SUV was disabled 11 miles southeast of Lyons after he struck the animal around 7:45 p.m. Friday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says an eastbound Chevrolet driven by 33-year-old Hutchinson resident Larry Collier struck Keesling and his vehicle.

Keesling was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers in Collier’s vehicle, including a 2-year-old and 9-year-old, were taken to Lyons Hospital with injuries.
