PORTLAND, Oregon (KGW) – Oregon State Police released a video Thursday of a rapid-fire shootout that occurred on Interstate 84.
Oregon State Police released dramatic dashboard camera footage of an officer-involved shooting on August 29 that killed 34-year-old John Van Allen II.
Allen, a military veteran, was taking his three children on a road trip when he was pulled over by state police.
In the video, Allen gets out of the car dressed in military camouflage and with his right hand behind his back.
Allen is repeatedly told by Oregon State Trooper Matthew Zistel (off camera) to return to his vehicle.
Allen then pulls a pistol out and begins firing rapidly at the trooper while advancing on his police car.
Gunfire is exchanged and Allen withdraws, showing no sign of injury.
The video ends after Allen drives off and Zistel is heard reporting into the radio that he has been shot.
Allen was found several miles down the road, killed by a single bullet to the chest.
Zistel sustained a mild gunshot wound.
The children were unharmed.
