WICHITA, Kansas– Police say a 45-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he was shot in the upper body.

It happened in the 1200 block of N. Poplar shortly before 7:00 p.m.

Police say there was a disturbance between two neighbors. The heated argument drew a crowd on the sidewalk and that’s when someone fired multiple shots.

Police arrived on scene to find a 45-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his neck.

The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but KSN News learned the victim is now in stable condition.

Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle take after the shooting.

Police were able to track down the vehicle over at 13th and Grove, but are still looking to see if the vehicle and the people inside are connected to the shooting.

“A suspect’s vehicle was seen by witnesses leaving and officers responded to the shooting had the information from dispatchers,” said Sgt. Donald Story, Wichita Police Department. “They stopped the car and the occupants in the car, but  their role in this is under investigation.”

At this time it’s still unclear whether the victim or the gunman lived in the neighborhood.

Police have interviewed several witnesses at the scene.

More information is expected to be release tomorrow morning at a police briefing.
