Kansas State – Oklahoma State preview

Kansas State (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) at No. 21 Oklahoma State (3-1, 0-1), 2:30 p.m.

Series record: Oklahoma State 36-23.

Oklahoma State stumbled in its first Big 12 matchup last week, getting upset 30-21 by West Virginia and tumbling 10 spots in the AP poll. Kansas State, the defending conference champion which lost multiple key seniors, is coming off a bye week and hopes to avoid going 0-2 in Big 12 play after falling 31-21 at Texas on Sept. 21.

Oklahoma State’s usually dynamic offense, led by sophomore QB J.W. Walsh, looking to bounce back from a sub-par outing last week in which they gained 111 yards rushing and committed three turnovers, up against K-State’s defensive unit, which ranks eighth among the 10 Big 12 schools in both rushing defense and total yardage allowed.

Kansas State: WR Tyler Lockett set a single-game school record with 237 yards receiving, on 13 catches, in the game against Texas and co-leads the Big 12 with 29 receptions. Add in his 160 kickoff return yards and Lockett, a junior, leads the conference in all-purpose yardage.

Oklahoma State: RB Jeremy Smith, who co-leads the conference with six rushing touchdowns, is looking to bounce back from a rough day against West Virginia in which he totaled one yard on 15 carries. The Cowboys need their running game to produce and Smith is the key, although Walsh actually leads the squad in rushing with 234 yards.

Kansas State leads the nation in punt returns, averaging 31.7 yards per return … The Cowboys are 13-1 in their last 14 home games, since the start of the 2011 season.
