WICHITA, Kansas – Investigators have released surveillance video looking for the public’s help in finding a woman who appears to have stolen a purse from the security checkpoint at the Sedgwick County Courthouse.

“Just from looking at the videos, it appears it was a crime of opportunity,” said Capt. Michael Stover with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department.

It happened September 25 around 8:50 a.m.

Another woman had left her purse on the conveyor belt of an x-ray machine during the morning rush.

When she returned to the checkpoint, the purse was already gone.

The video clearly shows a woman placing the small purse into her large bag.

Deputies also released video of another man going through the checkpoint that was spotted leaving the courthouse with the suspect.

Anyone who has information on the case is asked to call Sheriff Investigations at 316-660-5300 or call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
