Museum planned about pioneering Mich. TV station

DETROIT (AP) — A museum is planned in Detroit to honor WGPR-TV, one of the first black owned and operated television stations in the U.S.

The WGPR-TV Historical Society is set to discuss its plans for the museum during a news event on Friday.

The museum will be established within the WGPR studios in Detroit.

The goal is to preserve the station’s history, including its contributions to local television programming and role in helping young reporters, anchors and cameramen got their first breaks.

The WGPR-TV Historical Society is a nonprofit organized by former employees. The Society’s founding board members are to be on hand for Friday’s news conference.
