LSU dental students: free oral screening for kids

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Dental students are offering free oral health exams for children this weekend at the Louisiana State University dental school in New Orleans.

Spokeswoman Leslie Capo says children will be seen, first come, first served, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the fourth-floor pediatric dentistry clinic at 1100 Florida Ave.

The students are members of the Student Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Most are juniors and seniors.

As well as checking children’s teeth, they’ll review the children’s oral habits and hygiene with parents, and let parents know if their children need treatment.

Treatment can be provided either by a family’s own dentist or at the dental school, which accepts Medicaid and LACHIP.
