WICHITA, Kansas – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department has been working an internal case of alleged mistreatment of an inmate.

The original complaint was made on June 10th by a sheriff employee alleging the mistreatment by another sheriff employee.

The investigation included interviews with 70 witnesses. The case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office last week. As a result, the case was not charged and the employee was cleared of any criminal misconduct.

The employee has been working in a restricted capacity during the investigation, having no contact with inmates, but has now been returned to full duty.

The sheriff’s office will continue to investigate any allegations made against its employees. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
