WICHITA, Kansas – There were some tense moments out at Mid-Continent Airport Monday as a Delta Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing.

The plane and its 175 passengers on board made the unplanned landing in Wichita after some passengers smelled what they described as burning plastic.

The plane was able to make a safe landing and passengers were told to wait while a mechanic could look into the smell.

“It was pretty much more irritating than anything. There was no sense of panic. I never smelled the plastic smell that people were reporting smelling. I mean it’s obviously concerning any time you have to make an emergency landing so there was some anxiety but nothing serious,” said Anne Makovec, passenger.

The flight was on its way to Atlanta from Chicago.
