Cancer treatment center opening in Reed City

REED CITY, Mich. (AP) — A cancer treatment facility for the northwestern Lower Peninsula is opening in Osceola County.

Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital broke ground on the Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center in August 2012. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday afternoon as the center begins taking patients.

Hospital officials say about 10,000 cancer treatments are performed yearly in Reed City.

The new facility has technology that cuts in half the time needed for simple radiation treatments. Also available will be infusion therapy, which includes chemotherapy.

There’s also a wellness center featuring a library, boutique, meeting space and other services to educate and support patients as they recover. The wellness center offers integrative therapy choices for patients who prefer a holistic treatment approach.
