Inmate from Sedgwick County dies after being housed in Sumner County

WICHITA, Kansas – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department says a inmate who was housed in the Sumner County Jail was transported by EMS to the hospital Tuesday monring.

The department says the 59-year-old was pronounced dead at 6:31 a.m. of apparent natural causes.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Sumner County detectives were notified.

A full investigation is being conducted by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy will be performed. The identity of the inmate is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
