ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque will hold a Nov. 19 special election on proposed abortion restrictions.
The City Council voted 5-4 Monday night to conduct the special election as part of a potential Nov. 19 runoff for mayor and council races.
That’s if a runoff is needed.
If a runoff election isn’t needed, the abortion measure would be considered through a mail-in vote.
The proposed ordinance would generally ban abortions starting at 20 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for cases in which the woman’s life is in danger.
The city clerk has certified that supporters of the measure submitted enough signatures to qualify it for the ballot.
