NEW YORK (AP) — Two leading New York City nonprofit organizations that provide services for the blind and visual impaired are joining forces.
The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/181Vfdw ) says Jewish Guild Healthcare and Lighthouse International will be known as the Lighthouse Guild International.
The chairman of Lighthouse International, Joseph Ripp, will be named vice chairman. The Guild’s chief executive, Alan Morse, will have the same title in the combined organization.
For now, they will remain at their present locations. The merger is expected to be completed early next year.
The Lighthouse specializes in low-vision rehabilitation and social services. The Guild provides health care services.
Officials of both organizations say the merger will help raise awareness of vision loss.
