WICHITA, Kansas – The Wichita Police Department needs your kids.

Shocks, Cops & Kids kicks off Saturday morning.

It has been around since 2004.

Once a year, children spend the day hanging with law enforcement and Wichita State athletes.

On average, about 150 children take part in morning workshops that focus on internet safety, health and nutrition, and some one-on-one time on the court with both the men and women’s basketball team.

However, this year, Wichita Police Department Detective Jennifer Wright says signup has been a little slow with only about 75 kids on the sheets to go.

“We usually have at least 100 to 150 signed up by this time so we’re a little concerned. We have several positions available so we’d love to have the kids come down here. You get a free t-shirt, we feed you lunch and you get to interact with all of the wonderful student athletes.”

Again, this event is free for kids in grades third through eighth.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Charles Koch Arena.

The event will last from 10:30 – 4 p.m.
