Crow in La Crosse tests positive for West Nile

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A dead crow is the first bird to test positive for the West Nile virus in La Crosse County since health officials began testing in May.

The virus is spread to humans through infected mosquitoes. Health officials say most people infected with West Nile don’t get sick. Fewer than 1 percent of those infected get seriously ill.

County health director Doug Mormann says people need to be more vigilant about protecting themselves against mosquito bites.
