WICHITA, Kansas— This Friday the 13th was not unlucky for Kansas, but actually has some historical significance.

200 years ago, Major General John Sedgwick was born.

He went on to become the namesake of Sedgwick County and the town of Sedgwick.

He was a West Point graduate who fought in the Mexican-American War in 1847.

He was later shot to death in the Civil War.

Friday would have been his bicentennial birthday.
