Flu outbreak at state prison in Lancaster County

KERSHAW, S.C. (AP) — Several prison dorms have been locked down and weekend visitation canceled after a flu outbreak at a state prison in Lancaster County.

Authorities said Thursday that at least 36 prisoners and employees at Kershaw Correctional Institution have been sickened this week with coughs, congestion and high fevers.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control came to the medium- security prison Wednesday and confirmed the flu outbreak.

Prison officials hope keeping inmates in their dorms and cancelling visitation this weekend will stop the spread of the virus.
