Sept. 10 – 12. ALL DAY. GEORGIA TOURISM CONFERENCE — Travel professionals from across the state will gather on September 10 – 12, 2013 at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Stone Mountain Park for the 2013 Georgia Governor s Tourism Conference in Atlanta s DeKalb County. This year s theme is “Building Tourism on a Rock Solid Foundation. The attendee base consists of over 525 tourism professionals from CVBs, Lodging Properties, Attractions & Activities, Elected Officials, Tour & Travel, Education and Media.

Sept. 12. 10 a.m. AFFORDABLE CARE ACT RALLY — Politicians and community advocates will hold a press conference to discuss Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens’ stance on the Affordable Care Act. They will also highlight their support for the Federal Healthcare Marketplace and Medicaid expansion in Georgia.

Sept. 12. 10 a.m. FULTON-JAIL LOCKS — New cell door locks have been installed on the 5th floor of the Fulton County Jail and the first group of inmates to inhabit that area will move in Thursday starting at 10 a.m. During the project, inmates must vacate the construction zones. The new $5 Million Jail locks project was approved by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
The media is invited to come see the new and improved 5th floor as the inmates repopulate this area.

Sept. 13 – 14. ALL DAY. FARM TO PRESCHOOL SUMMIT — The 2013 Farm to Preschool Summit is an innovative effort to introduce locally grown fresh fruits and veggies to children during their most formative years. Friday is going to be a much smaller, hands-on session and a nutrition specialist would be available between 10 am and 12:30 pm. Saturday is the larger session 153 participants + volunteers, expert speakers from out of state, etc. Our nutritional specialist would be available all day between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM.

Sept. 13. ALL DAY. EPA YOUTH SYMPOSIUM — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host the 2nd Environmental Youth Symposium for Colleges & Universities in the Southeast on September 13, 2013. The event will be held at the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center in Atlanta, GA. The conference is an opportunity for students, faculty members, higher education administrators, and other environmental and sustainability stakeholders to develop partnerships, network, and collaborate on sustainable environmental strategies and practices.

Sept. 14. ALL DAY. DISNEY-CENTENNIAL PARK EVENT — Disney Junior is bringing the role-modeling messages of its acclaimed animated series “Doc McStuffins” to Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park on Saturday, September 14 in the form of The Doc Mobile, a FREE event that invites kids age 2-7 to perform a “check-up” on their own toys plus participate in other activities and health and wellness lessons including nutrition and physical development.
Over 30 local area doctors from Artemis Medical Society – an organization of more than 2,900 women physicians of color from around the world who formed their group after seeing a reflection of themselves in “Doc McStuffins – will be on hand to meet kids and parents.

Sept. 14. 11:30 a.m. KENDRICK JOHNSON RALLY — The Georgia NAACP and other groups are staging a march and rally in Valdosta to press for a federal investigation into the death of Kendrick Johnson. The teen was found dead inside rolled up gym mats and an independent autopsy his family requested reportedly contradicted the findings of the Lowndes County medical examiner.
