Lancaster student diagnosed with tuberculosis

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — A high school student in Lancaster County has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.

A letter sent out to parents on Monday said the student attends Wheatland Middle School.

Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial infection that usually attacks the lungs. It is spread through the air and can be fatal if not treated properly.

The letter from principal Jay Butterfield said state health officials are working with the district to identify and test people who came into close contact with the infected student.
