XENIA, Ohio (WLWT) – Newly released video shows the moment of impact when an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper’s cruiser slammed into a couple on a motorcycle.
The video shows Trooper Jacob Daymon driving on U.S. 35 east of Dayton on the night of August 17th.
Daymon showed no signs of braking and rear-ended Amy and Corey Waldman’s motorcycle, tossing the couple over the cruiser.
Shortly after Daymon came to a stop, he put on his lights and started backing up to block one lane of traffic. The video shows him exiting his cruiser and asks if the couple is okay.
The video doesn’t give any clues to why Daymon struck the couple, and officials with OSP are not commenting as the investigation continues.
The night after the accident, the Waldmans said they survived because they had their helmets on and that they forgive Daymon.
Daymon is still on the job and he was voted Trooper of the Year for 2012 by fellow troopers at his Xenia post.
Amy is still suffering from a concussion and Corey recently underwent addition X-rays.
