Wingnuts shutout Grand Prairie in game two

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – – Chris Smith pitched a three-hit complete game shutout as the Wichita Wingnuts took a two game to none lead in the American Association Division Series.

Wichita blanked the Grand Prairie AirHogs 6 t0 nothing Thursday night.

It was Smith’s first nine-inning complete game of his career. Smith recorded five strikeouts, three walks with 122 pitches.

The Wingnuts drew first blood in the third inning when Ryan Khoury drove home Jared McDonald with a single down the right field line.

Brent Clevlen scored Wichita’s second run on a Cole Armstrong single to right.

Wichita put the game away in the fifth. Jake Kahaulelio brought Khoury home on a ground out to short. John Rodriguez plated Khoury with a single to center.

The Wingnuts can close out the series with a win Friday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The gaame is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

If necessary games would be played Saturday and Sunday in Wichita.
