Boy hit by Aurora cop car treated for leg injury

AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Police say a 9-year-old boy struck by an officer’s squad car in Aurora is being treated for a leg injury that is not life-threatening.

The city’s Police Department says the boy and his brother ran across a street and into the path of the car during a heavy thunderstorm at about 7 p.m. on Friday. The brother was unhurt.

Police say the officer immediately stopped and administered first aid. The child was transported to Mercy Hospital.

Sgt. Matt Thomas says the boy suffered an injury to his leg and was transferred to another hospital offering specialty care in pediatric orthopedics.

The Police Department says an initial investigation indicates speed was not a factor and no citations were issued.
