RENO, Nev. (AP) — A philanthropic foundation with a long history of supporting Truckee Meadows Community College says it’s kicking in $2 million for a $10 million project that includes a new building for the school’s nursing program.
TMCC President Maria Sheehan announced Thursday the grant from the Nell J. Redfield Foundation will go toward construction of a new, 16,000-square-foot Health Science Center.
The project also includes renovation of the 25,000-square-foot High Tech Center on the Redfield Campus, a joint campus of TMCC and the University of Nevada, Reno.
Sheehan says the science center is needed to help address the state’s shortage of nurses. It will feature a high-tech nursing laboratory, classrooms, offices for faculty and student locker rooms.
