Inmate suffers serious burns at NJ state prison

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — State officials say an inmate at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton has been hospitalized with serious burn injuries.

Corrections Department spokeswoman Deirdre Fedkenheuer tells The Times of Trenton ( ) that corrections officers responded to the incident around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fedkenheuer said the inmate’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, but further details were not disclosed. Fedkenheuer said she did not know how the inmate was burned.

The inmate’s name has not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
