PALM BEACH COUNTY, Florida (WPTV) – Cameras captured a wild school bus ride in Palm Beach County, Florida. Students panicked when the brakes appeared to fail on their way home from Spanish River High School.

Video shot during the ordeal shows moments of terror as the 40-foot long school bus zooms down a busy road in Boca Raton moving against traffic — without a way to stop.

“It was a very scary moment. I was so nervous about everything that was going on,” said bus rider Nadya Williams.

Williams and three of her friends were on the bus.

They say there was a noise, then smoke, then a brakeless drive down the road.

“We were trying to get help and everyone’s honking in other cars, everyone’s honking and waving at us like we’re playing a joke or something,” said bus rider Monica Hopfensperger.

The bus driver managed to dodge car after car, flying down the wrong side of the road, helpless and horrified.

After a mile, the driver was able to bring the bus to a halt by rubbing its tires against a curb.

The school district released a statement that says the brake malfunction is under investigation.
