Wingnuts lower magic number to one

GARY, Indiana – – The Wichita Wingnuts reduced their magic number to one following a 5 to 4 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats Thursday afternoon.

Any combination of one Wichita win or one Gary loss will clinch the American Association Central Division for the Wingnuts.

Wichita made a big comeback in the ninth of Thursday’s game. The Wingnuts were behind 4 to 2 in the ninth with two outs and rallied to score three times. John Rodriguez scored Ryan Khoury and Jake Kahaulelio to tie the contest. C. J. Ziegeler hit a line drive single to drive in Rodriguez with the go ahead run.

Josh Dew picked up the save in the bottom of the ninth giving him 23 on the season.

Nick Walters got the win in relief.

Wichita won for the 60th time this year setting a franchise record.

The Wingnuts can clinch the division Friday night at home against the Grand Prairie AirHogs. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
