Zurich teen killed in crash near Plainville

PLAINVILLE, Kansas – A 16-year-old Zurich teen is dead after an accident early Tuesday morning.

It happened three miles west of Plainville around 5:25 a.m.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 16-year-old Acetin Benedick was traveling eastbound in a 1989 Isuzu pickup when he crossed the center line, overcorrected and struck a truck head on.

Benedick was taken to Rooks County Health Center.

He was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita where he died.

The occupants of the truck, 47-year-old Kelly Shearer from Almena and 56-year-old Ricci Gutzman, were transported to Rooks County Health Center for their injuries.

Acetin was a student at Plainville High School.

KSN spoke to Plainville Public Schools.

The person said counselors will be available to help students.
