PHOENIX, Arizona (KPNX) – A Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood is on edge after a string of what appear to be burglary attempts.
Someone has been shutting off power to homes, making many neighbors fear for their safety.
Mike Lyons was inside his Phoenix home Saturday when the power went out.
At first he thought it was a normal outage, but eventually decided to go outside and check the breaker box, just in case, and was shocked at what he found.
“When I flipped the lid up, all the switches had been turned off,” he says.
He later got emails from at least a dozen of his neighbors. The same thing happened to them.
Sgt. Trent Crump with the Phoenix Police Department says its definitely suspicious and is a common way for criminals to prey on potential victims.
“If somebody cuts off your power, it would be most of our instinct to turn it back on. So we’ve actually had that as an m-o for sexual assaults before, we’ve had it as an m-o for residential burglaries,it is a way for getting someone to get outside to check if they’re there or to victimize them,” Crump explains.
Sgt. Crump recommends locking your breaker box or electric box as a preventative measure.
