WICHITA, Kansas – Perhaps you’ve noticed a sparkly SUV cruising the streets of Wichita. With white and purple sparkles and more bling that you can count, it doesn’t blend in. The story behind it’s driver is what will make you be dazzled.
Brenda Cooper-Hall loves her bling. It’s hard to miss her as she drives by. It’s the bling people notice first. But there’s more behind the sparkle.
Some people are like, ‘That’s damage control!’ and I’m like, ‘Well I didn’t have any control,” remembers Brenda.
Brenda was in a dark place 14 years ago. Her only child, Takeeta, passed away of heart and kidney failure. Brenda was addicted to crack. She served time in both jail and prison.
And then she made a decision.
“My rehab is Jesus and God, it still is. It’s not easy and it’s not hard, a person if they want to stop using they will,” says Brenda.
Now clean for 14 years, Brenda turned to comedy to help keep her on the right path, and her unusual car is her business vehicle.
“I’m not in the dark anymore so I’m in the light, so everything I do it’s gonna be good in God’s eyesight. So the reason I have it on my car is it shines. It lights up people’s eyes when they see it, and it lights up mine as well,” laughs Brenda.
In between comedy shows, Brenda ministers to inmates at the Sedgwick County Jail.
“Hope and courage and I speak with them about the Lord and we study some things in reference of the Bible. There’s a lot I don’t know they teach me as well,” says Brenda.
Gospel comedy is her vehicle, but it’s her car that’s turning heads.
“Added lashes to it, I want to do a Hello Kitty, a head of Hello Kitty on the car,” said Brenda “It’s my business vehicle, and I’m going to continue to bling it out because I’m shining for the Lord.”
Brenda’s stage name is ‘Keda’s Mama’, after her daughter Takeeta. She performs across the Wichita area and has a show September first in Winfield.
