Officials looking for people in contact with bat

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Health officials in Louisville are trying to find out who may have been in contact with a bat that has been confirmed to have rabies.

The Department of Public Health and Wellness wants to talk to anyone with information about anyone coming into contact with the bat on Aug. 1 at a housing complex in south Louisville near Louisville International Airport.

Officials say the bat was carried in a box by children, and others may have been playing with or near the bat.

Rabies is fatal once symptoms develop, and health officials say it’s important they quickly treat those who have been in contact with the animal.

Anyone with information can contact the agency at (502) 574-6675 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT or (502) 574-8200 after hours.
