WICHITA, Kansas – A 47-year-old man was critically injured when the pickup he was driving crashed north of Wichita.

It happened around 9:40 a.m. in the area of 61st street North and Ridge Road.

Lieutenant Dave Mattingly of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department says the man was headed northbound on Ridge Road when he went off the road and hit a culvert on the east side.

Officials are investigating and say that it appears the driver didn’t try to stop before the crash.

The man was trapped in the mangled pickup until the jaws of life could be used to get him free.

Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital in critical condition.
