SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KSL) – A Utah family was struck by lightning while driving in their car in southern Utah and they captured the incident on video.

Taylor, Denham and Tanner Morlock were driving with their dad to Church Wells in pouring rain when Taylor said he wished for something that he shouldn’t have.

“While we were driving, I said, ‘I hope we get struck by lightning’ because we were in a really bad storm,” Taylor said.

Almost immediately after Taylor had made the request, the Morlock’s SUV was struck by a bolt of lightning. The lightning hit the SUV’s antenna.

“It was hot, it’s scary, and it’s loud,” Denham said of the experience. “The radio antenna was just like gone.”

The electrical gauges immediately shut off in the vehicle after the lightning strike. Three tires were also blown out, and the Morlocks were stranded in the rain until a passerby stopped and called for a tow truck.

“You could definitely feel the hairs on your neck just go up,” Taylor said.

The boys said the experience was an exciting one, but something that they don’t want to experience again.

“(Taylor) should never say it again,” Denham said.

The Morlocks also said that several of their cellphones and gaming devices in the car had dead batteries, but after the lighting strike, the electronics were all fully charged.
