Argentine gas workers held in deadly blast

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentine firefighters have found signs of life as they search a huge pile of rubble for more than a dozen people still missing in after a gas explosion destroyed a 10-story apartment building.

Civil defense authorities also say that 10 people are confirmed dead in the Rosario blast, and two gas company workers who were repairing the building’s gas supply are in custody.

Investigative Judge Juan Carlos Curto said Wednesday that one gas repairman fled the scene while the other tried to warn people moments before the blast, which injured dozens and damaged buildings for blocks around in Argentina’s third-largest city.

Some residents smelled clouds of gas and escaped their apartments just in time.
