PHOENIX, Arizona (KPNX) – An Arizona car wash now bills itself as the “greenest car wash in the country.”
It’s the first to install a seemingly magical invention that sanitizes and super oxygenates re-claimed water.
“It’s actually safe enough where you can pretty much drink it. Said Mayer Dev of Gaia Water System.
The unit collects water in underground reclaim tanks that are filtered, then oxygenated and carbonated by Gaia’s patented technology.
“With our system, with algae, for instance. We can oxygenate a body of water and get the oxygen content pretty high, we can kill the algae naturally” Dev said.
Environmental engineer Bruce Rittmann at Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute.
“I think if you wanted to use oxygen, oxygen toxicity to kill organisms such as algae, you’d have to go much higher than that,” Rittman said.
Mayer says Gaia’s independent tests have shown oxygenated water at levels two or three times the levels at the car wash.
ASU’s researcher said he would need to see more evidence that water could be treated on such a large scale.
