WICHITA, Kansas — Some Kansas communities are dealing with flooded streets and buildings after getting several inches of rain this weekend.

In Wichita, police closed Meridian from Harry to Pawnee on Sunday because of street flooding.

The Reno County Sheriff’s Office says parts of that county got five to seven inches of rain. The Creekside Village mobile home park, 1707 E. Blanchard, was flooded and some residents had to evacuated.

The Red Cross set up a shelter for flood victims at Trinity United Methodist Church, 17th and Main, Hutchinson.

The Elm Grove Estates nursing home in Hutchinson was evacuated earlier Sunday. Officials say 150 residents were taken to either the hospital or to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Hutchinson.

Reno County Emergency Management asked residents to stay home Sunday unless necessary after high water stalled vehicles.

In Barton County, several locations received five inches of rain including Ellinwood where streets were covered in water.

Barton County has provided sandbags for residents to pick up from a parking lot at 518 E. Santa Fe Blvd.

In Rice County,  travel was discouraged because of flooded roads. The situation is getting dangerous downstream of Cow Creek, especially in the town of Saxman. The fire district went door to door asking people to evacuate. The Red Cross is setting up a shelter at the Celebration Center in Lyons.
