Wingnuts score five runs in ninth and beat New Jersey

NEWARK, New Jersey – – The Wichita Wingnuts made a furious comeback scoring five runs in the ninth and two in the tenth to knock off the Newark Bears 10 to 8 in 10 innings Friday night.

The Wingnuts trailed 8 to 3 going to the final inning. In the ninth, John Rodriguez infield single opened the frame. C.J. Ziegler lined  homer to left center to narrow the gap to 8 to 5. Brent Clevlen doubled and scored on triple by Abel Nieves. Jared McDonald single to plate Niieves and Ryan Khoury closed out the ninth inning rally with a sacrifice fly allowing Madison Beaird to come home.

Ziegler lead off extra innings with a single. With two outs, Cole Armstrong’s single drove in Ziegler to put the Wingnuts ahead. Beaird doubled to give Wichita an insurance run when Nieves crossed the plate.

Andrew Aizenstadt picked up the win and Josh Dew earned the save.

The series continues Saturday night in Newark. The Wingnuts return to Wichita August 13th hosting Gary.
