Man endures pit bull, broken foot to run across NC

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — The postman’s creed is nothing compared to what Scot Fortescue is going through to complete his mission.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports (http://bit.ly/15DtTZz) the 47-year-old Fortescue has overcome heat, an attack by a pit bull and a broken foot to continue his goal of running all 360 miles in segments. He’s making the run to raise $6,400 to create the Bill Fortescue Scholarship in honor of his father, who died five years ago.

Between runs, Fortescue returns to Winston-Salem to operate his seafood business.

With 42 miles left, he plans to complete his run at Emerald Isle on Aug. 18 despite a break to the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He’s gone 30 miles with that injury.

The dog attack came in Durham, but Fortescue said he wasn’t hurt.
