Pilot killed in Russell County crash

RUSSELL COUNTY, Kansas — Russell County officials were called to the scene of a fatal plane crash early Sunday afternoon.

The single-engine aircraft went down near Lake Wilson and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office got the call just before noon.

The pilot of the plane was killed in the crash and has been identified as 66-year-old Rufus Woods III from Cimarron.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration will both be investigating the crash to find out what went wrong.
