FBI agent describes capture of Bulger in Calif.

BOSTON (AP) — An FBI agent has described the 2011 capture of reputed Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger (BUHL’-jur) and his longtime girlfriend in Santa Monica, Calif.

Agent Scott Garriola said that after receiving a tip on June 22, 2011, he lured Bulger out of his apartment by having the building manager tell him his storage locker had been broken into.

Garriola said when confronted, Bulger consented to a search of his apartment, where officers found 30 guns, false identifications and almost $822,000 in cash.

He said Bulger made it clear that he was being cooperative so law enforcement would give “future consideration” for his girlfriend Catherine Greig (GREHG).

Bulger was one of the nation’s most-wanted fugitives after fleeing Boston in late 1994.
