CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (NBC) – We realize your children don’t want to think about it right now, but there’s a big reason why you need to start gearing up for back to school.

“The bottom line is shop early, if you can go out and shop in July versus august you can save about $170 across all of your back-to-school purchases,” said Shauna Causey or the website decide.com

“Overall, peak seasons like back-to-school and Black Friday are not the best time to shop. The peak of those seasons is when you’ll see a few door buster deals, but most of the items are actually full price.”

Causey also says there’s a real advantage to staying connected online even while shopping which retailers now realize.

“So you might check an item one minute and then an hour later it might be different by $20, $30, $50 based on what the competition has that price at,” said Causey.

Back to school shopping is second only to Christmas as the busiest shopping season of the year.

Like Christmas, the shopping starts earlier every year.
