WICHITA, Kansas — Authorities have identified a 6-year-old girl who died after suffering injuries in a house fire last week in southeast Wichita.
Police says the girl is Jakara Tloria Lashon Dickson.
The fire started around 7 p.m. Thursday night in the 3900 block of East Countryside.
Three children were alone in the home when the fire started. Officials say Dickson was playing with a lighter and caught her clothes on fire. She ran into a bedroom where she tried to take off her burning clothes and set the room on fire.
Neighbors heard the smoke alarm going off and rushed to the burning home and helped the three children, ages 8,6 and 4, out of the burning home.
The mother showed up at the scene a short time later and was arrested on unrelated charges and suspicion of child abandonment.
Neighbors told KSN that the children had been left alone at the home before.
The two other children have been released from the hospital and are in police protective custody.
