Alcohol appears to be factor in drowning

RUSSELL COUNTY, Kansas — Investigators say alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in a drowning at Wilson Lake.

A fisherman found the body of Richard G. Roach floating off the Wilson Dam Sunday morning.

Roach was from Ellsworth.

Officials recovered the body and took it to Hays for an autopsy. The sheriff’s office confirms the cause of death was drowning and alcohol appears to be a contributing factor.

The incident comes just eight days after a 38-year-old man drowned in Wilson Lake after his boat had mechanical problems.
