Buildings involved with standoff have been reopened

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police Saturday reopened some apartments related to the standoff which ended Thursday night.

All buildings at the Southlake Village Apartments at 4141 South Seneca reopened shortly after two o’clock  Saturday afternoon.

The only apartments still closed are in Building 8, apartments 1 through 6. No word from police when those apartments will reopen.

The suspect, Jared Woosypiti, died in the shootout.

The shots were fired around 10:30 Thursday night after a standoff that lasted more than over 30-hours.

Police say no officers were injured during the shootout, but Woosypiti was fatally wounded.  Police are not saying how he died.

Police say they tried for hours to get Jared Woosypiti out of the apartment including every tactic they knew.

They said it wasn’t working, and they did everything they possibly could.

Crime scene investigators say it could take days to get all the evidence at the scene documented and cleaned up.

Lt. Doug Nolte said Friday the investigation is complex and more time is needed before other details can be released.

That is expected to happen Monday.

The shelter at Ruth Clark Elementary School for displaced residents closed Saturday.
