Teen steals car, lead sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase

WICHITA, Kansas – Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies and Wichita police arrested a 14-year-old Wichita teen after a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

It happened early Wednesday morning on South Broadway.

Deputies were responding to a suspicious character call around 4 a.m. at 130 East Nicole in Haysville.

Deputies then observed a 1999 Volkswagon turning onto Broadway.

Deputies were able to check the license plate and confirm that the car was stolen.

A pursuit continued northbound on Broadway, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Officers with the Wichita Police Department were able to deploy tire deflation devices in the 3500 block of South Broadway.

The driver, a 14-year-old Wichita teen, was taken into custody.

The passenger, a 15-year-old Wichita teen, was not located.

The suspect’s parents were contacted and informed of the situation.

The vehicle was returned to the owner.
