Wichita, Kansas — A water main break that closed Broadway at Mt. Vernon Tuesday morning is going to take several days to fix.
Police closed all four lanes of Broadway at Mt. Vernon in south Wichita just after 11:30 a.m.
A city spokesperson says a six-inch water main burst and sent water several feet into the air. The pressure buckled the road across all four lanes.
The city says the road is impassable for vehicles and pedestrians.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area. Those who use South Broadway will be detoured to neighboring streets while the road is fixed.
The water main won’t take long to repair, but the rebuilding of the road will take some time.
The city hopes to have Broadway reopened as early as this weekend.
