Couple’s spat leads to gasoline attack

WICHITA, Kansas – Police say a boyfriend tried to light his girlfriend on fire during a fight Sunday evening.

The two had gone to get gasoline for a lawn mower when an argument started.

Police say the 33-year-old woman confronted the 34-year-old man about his relationships with some other women.

When they arrived back at a home in the 1000 block of N. Pershing, police say the man dumped a drink on the woman.

She retaliated by going to the lawn mower and hitting it with a shovel.

“This upset the man and he grabbed the gas can, poured some gasoline on top of the female and, as she was running away, chased her with a lighter, trying to light her on fire,” said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police Department.

The woman made it safely into the house and shut the door while her mother called 911.

The man left the area before officers arrived.
