Body of Hoisington man recovered in Lake Wilson

RUSSELL COUNTY, Kansas — The body of a 38-year-old Hoisington man was recovered by divers Sunday morning after he went missing in Lake Wilson Saturday evening, the Russell County Sheriff’s office said in a statement.

County sheriffs received a report of a missing man in the Rock Town area of Lake Wilson at about 8:45 p.m. on Saturday. Search and rescue crews searched on land and in the water until the search was suspended due to darkness just after midnight.

Using sonar, divers located the man’s body just before 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Police said the man had reportedly attempted to swim across one of the coves in Rock Town after the boat he was on had mechanical problems. Two people who were in the boat told police they saw him swimming and then did not see his head come up again.

The man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of the family.

Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
