Wingnuts break losing streak at Grand Prairie

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – – The Wichita Wingnuts won in Grand Prairie for the first time in two years with a 6 to 2 victory over the AirHogs.

Wichita broke an 11-game losing streak in Grand Prairie dating back to July of 2011.

The Wingnuts took their first lead of the series scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. John Rodriguez scored Ryan Khoury on a single and Abel Nieves gave Wichita a 2 to nothing advantage with a fielders choice to shortstop.

Chris Smith picked up the win with five hits, four walks and seven strikeouts in  7 2/3 innings.

Wichita led the entire game with Grand Prairie averting the shutout with a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The Wingnuts will play Amarillo Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
