Morning commute light; SF Bay Area trains to run

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Striking San Francisco Bay area rail workers are set to return to work, but not in time for the morning commute.

Commuters had to find alternatives to Bay Area Rapid Transit service again on Friday. But they appeared to get a reprieve from crowded buses and clogged roadways because of the July 4 holiday.

Traffic at the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza was moving smoothly, and charter buses available at certain BART stations seemed to have ample room.

Train service was expected to resume at 3 p.m. Friday after unions and BART agreed to extend a labor contract for a month while they continue bargaining.
